Rang De Basanti

In fact, I was still in the hangover of last night’s inspiring moments. I was talking to my self through out the night. The reason is it was the first time when the national feeling enlightened many young hearts of modern India.

It was a bright Saturday of 28th May, 2011. I got up early on that day around 7:00 AM. Yes, it is early for today’s generation. Got ready in an hour and rushed to attend the India Against Corruption volunteers meeting at the National College Ground. The meeting was held to distribute the work responsibilities between groups for ensuring the smooth functioning of Anna Hazare and team's public meeting.

We were overwhelmed with the cause itself that we are working for a national cause. Above that our most respected national leaders were there. I remembered the movie 'Ranga De Basanti'. As in that movie, the narration of the story goes with exhibiting the shades of patriotism and at the same time similarities between the Bhagat Singh and other freedom fighters and present college going youth. I felt the same way when I glanced once at the ground. Jan Lokpal being in the center of our thoughts and corruption free India being our vision, we all brothers and sisters were scattered on the ground, wearing the “Bhrashtachar Saaku, Jan Lokpal Beku” T-shirts and working our responsibilities. Each volunteer was as if resembling a freedom fighter and working his way. The whole ground was filled with Josh people drenched in the shower of patriotism. This whole revolution lead by Annaji and Baba Ramdevji is to be truly called the Second Movement of India’s Independence. The whole day I was humming the below beautiful lines from the movie 'Ranga De Basanti'.

Kuchh kar guzarne ko khoon chala khoon chala
Aankhon ke sheeshe mein utarne ko khoon chala
Galiyon se raston se ubharkar, umadkar
Naye rang bhar ne ko khoon chala khoon chala

Most of us would have assumed that the youth engaged in commenting on bollywood and worshiping the cricket Gods and tapping for bollywood's senseless songs (like Munni, Sheila, etc) would never like to be identified with these national issues. But to the surprise of the country, again the youth have come out and took the lead under the leadership of Anna Hazare-ji.

As the day started passing by, the self motivated crowd started increasing. Everybody was talking in one language that is, some how we have to root out this malicious corruption from the country. I have been given the responsibility of collecting the donation from public for the cause and fight against corruption. However, I am stunned to see people in queue to pay donation for their future India. People wanted pay generously but we (IAC-ans) have restricted ourselves to accept maximum of Rs. 500 from any individual. So, more people can pay and let everyone get a feel that the movement belongs to them and they can newer let this lobby die, unless the objective of getting a Jan Lokpal bill passed by Indian Parliament. Salute to this national spirit. Yes, we will fight till the end. We will definitely win this fight!

I cannot forget the day before i.e. 27th of June, 2011, when we being the volunteers had a privilege of having dinner with these crusaders. We spent sometime with them. Those will be the moments of anyone’s life. Whoever was present in that informal meeting would cherish those moments throughout their life. In the meeting, Annaji gave the direction and moral values to the youth. I would rather call it as tale of Annaji's Panchatantra.

He told us to remember 5 points in life, which are lacking in today's world. But are the base for the ethical and principled life, and above all he practiced these principles throughout his life. It is a moral out of his life.

1. Shudha Aachaar - (Good Character)
2. Shudha Vichaar - (Good Thinking)
3. Nishkalanka Jeevan - (Spotless Life)
4. Tyaag - (Sacrifice)
5. Apamaan ko Sehane ki Shakti - (Will Power to Accept Insult)

He adds that when we are working as a team, we should be ready to accept the insult sometime and even should forgive the opponent. He even asserted that don't keep high expectations from anybody and any effort, because, that might lead to frustration. And frustration is very dangerous, which can even disturb the movement. Be care full about it. Do your best effort and leave it to destiny to decide the returns. At the end he said that if we follow these principles than no one can touch us and disturb us.

That's a wonderful doze of energy to all the volunteers he could give. I felt these morals should be thought at every home from the childhood.

Days passed after this event but we still dream that Annaji is around us.

We all know that there is still long way to go. I want to leave you with a note which is even an IAC song,

Hum honge Kaamiyab,
Hum honge Kaamiyab, Ek Din,
Oho man me hai Vishwaas,
Pura hai Vishwaas,
Hum honge Kaamiyab, Ek Din!!!
