I want only to work on Java / .Net / DB. Let me complete few courses on new technologies, so, I am fully ready to be launched in Software Lok after completion of engineering. It is even better if someone else is ready to bear the cost by selecting me from campus.
6 Months After Engineering (without getting any job)
I heard there are less openings in Software Development side. Software Testing is also having a very good career path. It does not matter if I do not get job in branded companies, In fact, for beginners, small company is very much suitable. There will be lot of learning opportunities. Let me put some experience in CV covering these 6 months gap. Even it will add weight age to my resume.
The 1st Year in Software Industry (After getting job into testing field)
Who will do testing, man? I want to go back to development. Here in this company switching from testing to development is not possible, so, let me change the company.
2nd to 8th Year (changed 2-3 companies i this period. by comparing with others)
See whatever work is there that doesn't matter for me, but, should have good earning. After all, I am not asking for more, but, at least I should get industry standard salary. Though whatever world says, Money is Money boss. See My friend Madhu and Nagesh, my classmates are getting decent salary. Shyam is in Singapore from past 6 months and as he said that his stay is extending for another year. Raghu, who went to US immediately after joining his company, has not yet turned back. I should do something about my career as well. Otherwise things won't fall in place by them selves. Let me try again outside. However, it is said that 1.6 years stay is more in a company. Otherwise, we will get into comfort zone, sir…! When it is said so, I am completing 1.9 years in this waste company. This is right time to jump.
8th to 12th Year (Now seeks higher role)
See I never gave importance to technology and money in my Life. What I always looked for is a role / good designation. Unfortunately, from past 4 years I am in the same position. To add to that the 2 years experienced guys and I are doing same work. Above all, I heard company is hiring less experienced candidates now-a-days with handsome package. Then 2 years experienced person’s earnings and my earnings almost close I believe.
I feel, after certain years, No company bothers about senior resources. “Maza to sirf manager logon ka hota hai… Apani ginati to bas, aaya to aaya hoga, gaya to gaya hoga”. I don’t want to be in such company without having any value for my experience and knowledge. Let me call all my old and new friends. In the mean time Let me complete PMP certification as well.
12th to 18th Year (After becoming manager)
Shit Man, So soon I have become manager in career. It was good when I was not manager. See now, first of all there is no personal Life at all. Life is pledged to MS Office. Continuous update about the industry movement is essential. You should be well versed with latest technologies. Estimates and Metrics are eating up my energy. I am feeling sometimes cut off from society.
Handling Appraisal period is another hectic job. I feeling like caught between reporting team and management. I don’t want to be bossy with team, rather I want to be friendly and honest. But, I can’t otherwise, things do not move smooth. For what I am taking this heavy load is just for meager salary? Though Money is not very important for me, but, it should be at least according to the standards. It is even tough to move out now in this situation. Job market is very down. Recession has become phenomena of Life. Why can't I try by taking out the first 2 companies’ experience? So, it will be another 2-3 years less. It will be easier to jump from here and easier for the new company to catch.
18th to 28th Year (Things are moving very fast. Getting all that I am deserving, wanting, (money and position) and not deserving, one after the other)
From Personal Front - I am bugged up with this job man. I want to quit and relax rest of my Life. Once Adi’s (My son) MS in Psychiatry is over next to next year, then I am done. Now-a-days having too much of gas trouble man, can’t get sleep sometimes. This back pain is like back stabbing. I don’t know when I shall get relief from this all.
From Job front – Sometimes higher position is given (like Delivery Manager, Domain Director, Area Head, VP, Director, CFO,… etc) and Package will be less. Then he says, I have taken a farm house in Kodagu recently expecting a good hike. But, with this much salary how long I keep repaying the bank?
Sometimes Package is good (like, 10% hike, 20% hike, ect.)but, position is a level less. Package, somehow I accept though being less, but, position… Now, in this era position is important. That is from which position I am retiring. It is matter of pride and dignity. I served this company from past so many years and is this what reward for my Lifetime service?
Life is Much Bigger Than This Career Life. Let Us Value It.
Ladder of Character has More Sticks/Steps than the Promotional (Career) Ladder.
Mental Peace is Much More than Any Certification, Award, Reward, Ownership, Bank Balance etc…
Time, Cost and Quality are Not Only Important in Software Industry, but, Even Important in Our Personal Life.
